Saline breast implants are made to be durable, but that doesn’t mean that they are indestructible. Flaws in the material and even simple wear and tear can cause an implant to rupture. This causes the saline to leak out of the casing and into the body. While this may seem frightening, the occurrence is actually nothing to worry about.
The saline within the implant is simply a mixture of salt and water. Because of this, it is not toxic or harmful, and the body will absorb the excess liquid without any issue.
A breast-implant rupture will affect the appearance of the breasts, but the damaged casing can be removed and replaced through surgery. Once replaced, the augmented appearance of the breasts should be restored.
